Scoring 90+ in Class 11 Applied Maths requires the right approach — knowing which units to prioritise (Financial Mathematics and Algebra together carry 30 marks), how to write step-wise solutions that earn method marks, and how to use school papers effectively at each stage of the year. That's exactly what Boundless Maths coaching is built around. Book a free demo class to experience it first-hand — no commitment needed.
The Applied Mathematics syllabus is divided into two parts — Theory (80 marks) and Internal Assessment (20 marks). CBSE Applied Mathematics Class 11 for 2026-27 is structured across 7 units covering Numbers & Quantification, Algebra (including Mathematical Logic & Sequences), Calculus, Combinatorics & Probability, Descriptive Statistics (including Regression), Financial Mathematics, and Coordinate Geometry. Designed for commerce and social science students, it replaces abstract theory with real-world applications — ideal for students planning CA, CS, BBA, BCom, Economics Honours, or Business Analytics. Complete guide to scoring 90+ marks in CBSE Class 11 Applied Mathematics. Learn which topics carry maximum weightage, how to approach each unit, formula mastery techniques, how to use practice papers at the right time, and common mistakes to avoid.
The highest-weightage unit! Focus on compound interest, annuities (up to 3 periods), present value, net present value, and tax calculations (GST, income tax). Step-wise solutions are essential here.
Master Sets & Venn diagrams, AP & GP, and Mathematical Logic (syllogism, blood relations, coding-decoding). Sequences & Series applications are high-yield. P&C has moved to Unit IV.
Standard Deviation, Variance, Correlation (Karl Pearson & Spearman), Percentile Rank, and Regression Analysis. Formula-driven and very scoring with consistent practice. Note: Regression Analysis is new in the 2026-27 syllabus and is not yet in the M.L. Aggarwal textbook — schools may still test it.
Understand functions (domain, range, types), limits, continuity, and differentiation using chain rule and algebra of derivatives. Instantaneous rate of change applications are a favourite question type.
Numbers & Quantification (10 marks): Logarithms, Binary numbers, Clocks, Calendar, and Time & Work are formula-based and highly scoring. | Mathematical Logic (part of Algebra): Syllogism, blood relations, and coding-decoding — practice with pattern questions for easy marks. | Coordinate Geometry (5 marks): Straight line and circle equations are formula-based and straightforward. | Combinatorics & Probability (10 marks): P&C formulas are mechanical — practise factorial-based problems thoroughly.
Use the Formula Deck — every formula for all 7 units, chapter-wise. Revise daily, not just before exams. Understanding when to apply each formula matters more than memorising it.
Always show complete step-wise working. Teachers award method marks even if your final answer is wrong — a well-presented incomplete solution can still earn you 3 out of 5 marks.
Spend more daily time on Financial Mathematics, Algebra, Descriptive Statistics, and Calculus — these four units together contribute 55 out of 80 marks. Even 30 focused minutes per day makes a huge difference.
Build up: start with free chapter-wise questions on this site, then unit test papers, then half-yearly papers, and finally annual exam papers. Don't jump straight to full papers.
Use school question papers matched to your current exam stage — unit test papers for periodic tests, half-yearly for mid-year, annual papers only after finishing the full syllabus.
Internal Assessment includes Excel practical work (5 marks). Practise using Excel for compound interest, NPV, data analysis (mean, SD, correlation), and graphs throughout the year — not just at exam time.
P&C before Probability: Do not rush into Probability before you are comfortable with factorials, permutations, and combinations — they are the language probability is written in.Limits & Continuity → Class 12 Calculus: Understanding limits properly in Class 11 makes differentiation and integration in Class 12 feel natural. Do not treat them as rote formulas.Functions → Class 12 Applications: Domain, range, and types of functions come back directly in Class 12 for increasing/decreasing functions and maxima/minima. Build this foundation now.
Read the entire paper first. Identify easy questions and plan your attempt order before writing anything.
Attempt all 1-mark questions quickly. Don't overthink — move on if stuck and return at the end.
Solve all 2-mark and 3-mark questions with complete step-wise working. Every step is a potential method mark.
Attempt 5-mark questions with neat, complete solutions. Reserve the final 10 minutes to review all answers.
Two textbooks, free practice questions, the Formula Deck, and a Practice Package coming soon — your complete set of resources to score 90+ in CBSE Applied Mathematics Class 11.

Common questions about CBSE Applied Mathematics Class 11. If your question isn't answered below, WhatsApp us and we'll reply promptly.
Class 11 lays the foundation — basic Calculus (limits, differentiation), introductory Financial Mathematics (compound interest, basic annuities), Descriptive Statistics, Probability, Algebra, and Coordinate Geometry. Class 12 builds on this with advanced Calculus (integration, differential equations), EMI, sinking funds, bonds, Inferential Statistics, and Linear Programming.
On Limits & Continuity: Limits and continuity in Class 11 are not just exam topics — they are the conceptual gateway to differentiation and integration in Class 12. A student who understands them properly in Class 11 will find Class 12 Calculus significantly easier. If you rush through limits or treat them as rote formulas, you will feel that gap acutely in Class 12.
On Functions: Domain, range, and types of functions studied in Class 11 come back directly in Class 12 when you work on increasing/decreasing functions and maxima/minima. Understanding functions well now means the application chapters in Class 12 will feel intuitive rather than confusing.
