Class 10 Science (Subject Code 086) covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology across 5 units for your board exam. Unlike Class 9, the Class 10 syllabus and textbook remain unchanged for 2026-27 — a new textbook is expected only for the 2027-28 session. This page covers the complete current syllabus, unit-wise marks, and comprehensive chapter-wise Science Notes to help you prepare with confidence.
Five units, 80 theory marks + 20 marks Internal Assessment (Periodic Assessment, Practical Work, Portfolio) = 100 marks total. Annual Examination based on the entire syllabus.
| Unit | Theme | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| I — Chemical Substances: Nature and Behaviour | Chemical Reactions & Equations, Acids Bases & Salts, Metals & Non-metals, Carbon & its Compounds | 25 |
| II — World of Living | Life Processes, Control & Coordination, Reproduction, Heredity | 25 |
| III — Natural Phenomena | Light — Reflection & Refraction (mirrors, lenses, human eye, prism, dispersion) | 12 |
| IV — Effects of Current | Electricity, Ohm's Law, Magnetic Effects of Current | 13 |
| V — Natural Resources | Our Environment — ecosystems, ozone depletion, waste management | 5 |
| Total (Theory) | 80 | |
| Internal Assessment (Periodic + Practical + Portfolio) | 20 | |
| Grand Total | 100 | |
Unlike Class 9, which moved to a new integrated NCERT Science textbook this year, Class 10 continues with the current NCERT Science textbook and syllabus structure for 2026-27 — no changes this session. A new, restructured textbook is expected for the 2027-28 academic year, similar to what Class 9 just went through.
Three topics are assessed only formatively (Internal Assessment/Portfolio), not in the year-end summative exam: Periodic Classification of Elements, Heredity and Evolution, and part of Effects of Current (Motor, Electromagnetic Induction, Electric Generator). Schools may still teach these for conceptual understanding, but board exam questions won't be drawn from them.
Chapter-wise notes covering all 5 units, with clear explanations, labelled diagrams, and CBSE board exam pattern key points highlighted throughout.
